Early Response

After waiting at the Rafah border crossing for 10 days, Red MiST was eventually allowed to cross into the Gaza Strip after much diplomatic pressure, and bringing with them Medical supplies and external fixation surgical equipment, needed to treat the war casualties.

Many Gazan homes had been destroyed in the onslaught by the IDF and families had to be housed in makeshift camps within the Gaza Strip. The already strained Gazan Health Service was under even more pressure to help and treat the injured from the war.

Many of the injured had high velocity gunshot wounds.

Over the subsequent months, a further 3 teams (Greek MiST and two UK MiST) entered Gaza to continue to treat war causalities and follow-up patients that were treated by previous MiST Limb Reconstruction Teams (LRT).
